Our Approach

At Greasby Junior School, we are committed to creating a calm, safe and nurturing environment where excellent behaviour enables every child to learn, thrive and fulfil their potential. Our school is a community built on positive relationships, mutual respect and high expectations, ensuring that all pupils and staff can work together in an atmosphere that is friendly, purposeful and secure.

Our behaviour culture is underpinned by our core values of Care, Courtesy and Consideration. These values shape how we treat one another, how we conduct ourselves around school, and how we approach learning. Through our Behaviour for Learning policy, we teach pupils the importance of positive choices, restorative approaches and respectful behaviour as lifelong skills.

We work in partnership with pupils, staff and families to maintain a consistent and fair approach to behaviour. Our restorative ethos helps children understand the impact of their actions, repair harm and build stronger, healthier relationships.

At GJS, we celebrate kindness, effort and good choices, ensuring that positive behaviour is recognised and reinforced. Our aim is for every child to feel a sense of belonging and pride, enabling them to become resilient, motivated and responsible citizens—ready to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Promoting Positive Behaviour

At GJS, we celebrate and promote postive behaviour with a diverse award system.

Class Point and Team Points

Each child is part of one of four houses at Greasby Junior School – Day, Bennett, Royden or Shaw. Class point are awarded to pupils for demonstarting positive behaviour choices, high levels of effort, good manners and high standards of work. For every 25 class points, pupils are a awarded a team point that goes towards their house total for the half term. The winning house gets an ‘own clothes’ day.

Weekly Celebrations

Celebration Board

Children are encouraged to bring in celebrations and awards that they have earned outside of school such as sports trophies or swimming certificates. We are keen to celebrate such achievements with the children, take their photograph and proudly display them on the ‘Celebrations’ display board. A team point is also awarded to each pupil who brings in something that they are proud of.

Merit Award

Each week, every class teacher selects a pupil to receive a Merit Award. These awards celebrate levels of effort, high standards of work, kindness and positive behaviour choices. A team point is also awarded to each merit winner.

Values Award

Each week, our Year 6 Values Ambassadors are on the look out for pupils demonstrating school and MAT values – Care, Courtesy and Consideration or Collaboration, Expression, Citizenship and Inspiration. A team point is also awarded to each values winner.

Golden Table

Each week, one pupil from each year group is selected by our lunchtime staff for demonstrating wonderful manners and excellent behaviour choices at lunchtime. Golden Table winners enjoy a special lunch with Mrs Swift each week including a special sweet treat. A team point is also awarded to each Golden Table winner.
