At Greasby Junior School, we offer a wide choice of healthy, freshly cooked meals on a three-week rolling menu, including a daily deli option. All meals are freshly prepared on site by our catering partners, Chartwells, who share our commitment to providing nutritious, high-quality food for children.
Meals cost £3.00 (including a drink) and are paid for electronically via Arbor. Families can choose each day whether their child has a school dinner or brings a packed lunch from home.
Please click below to see the Chartwells School Lunch Menu for Autumn 1. This menu is valid until October 2026 (despite the Spring/Summer label). Please see the small print under ‘Week 1/Week 2/Week 3’ in the top corner of each menu to see the specific dates.
Our Catering Approach
Our catering is fully compliant with School Food Standards and includes:
- Red Tractor-assured meat
- Sustainably sourced fish in line with MSC guidelines
- Free-range eggs
- Fruit and vegetables from LEAF-accredited suppliers
- Fairtrade products where possible
This helps to ensure our meals are fresh, ethical and responsibly sourced.
Medical Diets
We want all children to be able to enjoy a safe and suitable school meal. If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or other medically diagnosed dietary requirement, please contact our SENDCo, Mrs Mullineux-Clay, who oversees healthcare arrangements within school.
Mrs Mullineux-Clay will work with you to make sure that we have the appropriate information and arrangements in place to support your child safely in school. Where a medical diet is required, she will also guide you through the Chartwells Medical Diet process, which involves completing a Medical Diet Request Form and providing relevant supporting medical information.
If school is made aware of a medical dietary requirement through another route, Mrs Mullineux-Clay will contact parents or carers directly to discuss this and, where necessary, support them through the medical diet process.
Once a medical diet has been agreed, school works closely with our catering team to ensure that your child’s dietary requirements are clearly communicated. We have an identification system in place to help catering staff recognise children with medical dietary requirements and ensure that they receive the correct meal.
If your child is newly diagnosed with an allergy or intolerance, develops a new medical dietary requirement, or their existing needs change, please let Mrs Mullineux-Clay know so that we can ensure their healthcare information and any necessary arrangements are updated promptly.
Free School Meals
If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, please read the information below, or contact the school office for more information. Successful claims also provide the school with additional funding to further support your child’s education.
If you are in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit you can submit an application for Free school meals on-line to Wirral Borough Council.
In addition to the free meal and free milk available through this scheme, our school also benefits from supplementary funding for your child following a successful claim. This funding is used to further enhance their education.
Wirral Council is urging more families to take up free school meals for their children.
Free School Meals have been expanded from September 2026
From September 2026, all children living in households receiving Universal Credit are entitled to Free School Meals, regardless of household earnings. This means that some families who were not previously eligible may now be able to claim.
There are two categories of Free School Meals:
Targeted Free School Meals – for children living in households receiving Universal Credit with annual household earnings of £7,400 or less. This can also mean that the school receives additional Pupil Premium funding to support your child’s education.
Expanded Free School Meals – for children living in households receiving Universal Credit with annual household earnings above £7,400. Your child will receive a free school meal, although this category does not attract the same additional Pupil Premium funding.
Who can apply?
Your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you or your child receive:
- Income Support, or
- Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance, or
- Universal Credit or
- Child Tax Credit with a total annual taxable income of less than £16,190 and are NOT receiving Working Tax Credit, or
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance or
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit or
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- There are also separate eligibility arrangements for some families who have no recourse to public funds.
If you receive Universal Credit, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if your household earnings are above £7,400. Your child may now be entitled to a free school meal under the expanded scheme.
Why should I apply?
In addition to providing your child with a free, healthy school meal, registering for Targeted Free School Meals can help our school to receive additional funding through the Pupil Premium. This funding is used to support children’s education and help them achieve their full potential.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 already receive Universal Infant Free School Meals. However, families who meet the criteria for Targeted Free School Meals should still apply, as this can enable the school to receive additional funding to support your child.
How to apply:
You can apply online for Free School Meals through Wirral Borough Council.
Please note that you need to make a claim for Free School Meals. Your eligibility will then be checked and confirmed by the school or local authority.
If your circumstances change, for example your child changes school or you or your partner stop receiving a qualifying benefit, please contact us as soon as possible.

Packed Lunches
Packed lunches should be brought to school in a suitable container, clearly marked with your child’s name. As a health-promoting school, we ask that lunches are balanced and nutritious.
Please be aware that lunchboxes are not refrigerated during the school day. Any uneaten items will be returned home so that parents and carers are aware of what their child has eaten.
As we are a nut-aware school, packed lunches must not contain nuts or peanuts, including products containing them, to help protect children with severe allergies.
Snacks
Children may bring a small, healthy snack for morning break, such as fruit or another suitable healthy snack.
As we are a nut-aware school, snacks must not contain nuts or peanuts, including products containing them, to help protect children with severe allergies.
Crisps, sweets and chocolate should not be brought into school as a morning snack.
Water Bottles
All children receive a school water bottle when they join us. Only this type of bottle should be used in school. Bottles should be washed and refilled at home each day, with replacement bottles and tops available to buy from the school office. Water coolers are located around school so children can refill their bottles during the day.
Our school bottles have been carefully chosen for use in the classroom. They are BPA-free and designed specifically for food and drink use. Their consistent size and design help to reduce spills, noise and distractions and keep classroom tables safe and uncluttered, helping us to maintain a calm and purposeful learning environment.
The coloured bottle tops also match our school House teams, helping children to identify their bottles and promoting a sense of belonging and school identity.
