What does it mean to be a House Captain?
Here at Greasby Junior School, every child belongs to one of our four historic school houses, each with its own colour:
- Bennett (blue)
- Day (red)
- Royden (green)
- Shaw (yellow)
Our houses are named after four influential figures—Thomas Bennett, Richard Day, Sir Thomas Royden and John Shaw—who donated land many years ago to allow local schools like ours to be built. Their generosity and commitment to education continue to inspire our school community today.
Each year, pupils in Year 6 have the opportunity to stand for election as House Captain. Candidates create a short persuasive speech to present to their house, explaining why they would make a strong leader and how they would demonstrate our core values of Care, Courtesy and Consideration. Pupils then vote, and one boy and one girl are chosen to represent each house.
House Captains take on a range of important responsibilities throughout the year. They help lead our weekly Celebration Assembly, motivate their houses during events and competitions, support younger pupils, and act as positive role models across the school.
Being a House Captain is a prestigious leadership role that helps pupils develop confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of pride in representing their house and the wider Greasby Junior School community.
