Greasby Junior School has a long and proud history, deeply rooted in the local community. Originally founded as Frankby School in the 1860s, the school has continuously evolved, embracing change while staying true to its core values of Care, Courtesy, and Consideration. While the physical environment of the school has changed over the years, one thing has remained constant—a strong commitment to putting children first.
A key part of this commitment is our House System, which connects our past with the present. Every child belongs to one of four houses, named after the influential individuals who helped make education in this area possible. Thomas Bennett, Richard Day, Sir Thomas Royden, and John Shaw each played a crucial role in establishing schools in our local community by generously donating land for their construction. In their honour, our school houses—Bennett (Blue), Day (Red), Royden (Green), and Shaw (Yellow)—continue to represent teamwork, resilience, and a shared sense of belonging. Pupils earn house points for achievements, positive behaviour, and participation, reinforcing the values that have shaped Greasby Junior School for generations.
The Evolution of Teaching and Learning
Education at Greasby Junior School has transformed significantly over the years, moving from traditional teacher-led instruction to a more dynamic, research-driven approach. Inspired by the work of leading educational thinkers, we prioritise:
Effective Questioning – Encouraging deeper thinking through retrieval practice, higher-order questioning, and structured discussion.
Cognitive Load Theory – Ensuring that learning is introduced in manageable steps, helping pupils build strong foundations.
Adaptive Teaching – Recognising the diverse needs of our pupils and tailoring lessons to challenge and support every learner.
Our teaching has also been revolutionised by technology, which plays an increasingly vital role in education. Where pupils in the past relied solely on textbooks and handwriting, today’s learners benefit from iPads, educational apps, and online platforms, making lessons more interactive and engaging. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to shape the future of education, offering personalised learning opportunities that adapt to each child’s needs, helping them to thrive in an ever-changing world – something we in education need to consider for the future.
A School for the Future
Although education has advanced, Greasby Junior School remains true to its founding principles—providing a safe, nurturing environment where every child is valued. Generations of pupils have passed through our doors, leaving with fond memories, strong values, and the skills to succeed.
As a proud member of Oak Trees Multi Academy Trust, we continue to build on our legacy, ensuring that every child is equipped with knowledge, confidence, and ambition. Whether through innovative teaching, cutting-edge technology, or our strong sense of community, Greasby Junior School remains at the forefront of excellence in education—ready to inspire the next generation.
