Pastoral Support

Pastoral Support

At Greasby Junior School, we recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, supported and ready to learn. Pastoral support is an important part of our whole-school approach to children’s wellbeing, alongside the care and support provided every day by class teachers and other members of staff.

Children may need some additional support at different points during their time with us. This might be because of worries or anxiety, friendship difficulties, bereavement or loss, changes within the family, difficulties attending or accessing school, emotional regulation, or other circumstances affecting their wellbeing.

Our pastoral support is tailored to the individual child and may include:

  • support from a trusted adult in school;
  • opportunities to talk about worries or difficulties;
  • support with friendships, emotions or accessing the school day;
  • targeted interventions where appropriate;
  • working closely with parents and carers;
  • seeking advice or support from external professionals and services when needed.

Our SENDCo and Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Mullineux-Clay, oversees and coordinates pastoral support across school. She works closely with children, families and school staff and liaises with a range of external services, including Early Help and our Mental Health Support Team (MHST). Where appropriate, she can meet with parents and carers to discuss concerns, help identify possible sources of support and signpost families to relevant local services.

Mrs Mullineux-Clay works closely with the Headteacher, Mrs Swift, to coordinate school involvement in multi-agency support, including Team Around the Family (TAF) and Child in Need (CIN) arrangements, and to oversee provision for children who are looked after.

We know that asking for help can sometimes feel difficult. Parents and carers are encouraged to speak to their child’s class teacher in the first instance if they have concerns about their child’s wellbeing. Where further support may be helpful, the class teacher can liaise with Mrs Mullineux-Clay so that together we can consider the most appropriate next steps.
